Ice and Mixed Phase Clouds - Aggregates

Aggregates are formed when ice crystals collide due to turbulent motion within the cloud. It is thought that thin layers of supercooled water on crystal surfaces increase the sticking probability when collisions occur, so that most aggregation occurs at temperatures warmer than -40.
