The observatory is located in the Holme Moss transmitter compound, close to the top of Black Hill in the Peak District at a height of 525m above sea level (N53.532742, W1.856747, Alt 525m). Most instruments are mounted on a 5m mast in the middle of a rough grass area in front of the transmitter building, and are relatively well exposed in most directions, but are sheltered to some extent by the building (single story) when winds are from the NW sector. At its closest point, the building is approx 15m away from the mast in close to a northerly direction. The embedded map below shows the location of the site. The met mast is approximately in the centre of the oval lawn to the south east of the building. The Present Weather Sensor is mounted at a height of approx 1.5m close to the northern edge of the transmitter enclosure. Data collection and transfer issues (periodic manual collection) limit the temporal resolution of instruments on the 5m mast to 1 hour.
